2011 has been a monumental year for me, both business and personal wise. One key component has been my personal vision board, which I set up last December and displayed in my home in my personal space to encourage and motivate me to make moves. If you are unfamiliar, a vision board is a visualization of all of the goals and dreams you aspire to reach—it could be pictures from a magazine of a home or car your want to live in one day, to a person you look up to, to an object. Basically, it’s a visual of what you want to BE. And looking at things visually each day can really rev up your engine and cause you to move forward full steam ahead.
Moguls Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart have touted the use of vision boards for their success. I like using a vision board because it puts everything in perspective for me—visually.
When you conceive it, believe it, and see it, you can BE it.
I have taken down this year’s vision board and I am not getting ready to begin to work on 2012’s edition. When I moved recently, the pictured boards were already installed in my walk-in closet, so I figured this would be a perfect spot to display my vision board. It’s a great place for me to create a board for next year’s goals, but is still out of side for most people. The thing about my board is that it is very personal and private—I don’t share mine with everyone.
I am looking forward to making my new vision board(s) for the new year, and it’s an exciting and fun bonding thing that I like to do with myself as self therapy. I highly suggest that if you haven’t made a vision board, you do so.
What do you think of vision boards? Do you have one?
Andrea Harvey says
Yes! I have used a vision board. I am now on my 3rd one. My husband and I both use them personally and as a family. They have proven very motivational. Before we purchased our current home, a few months before closing we found this home and put the photos on our board. It was so amazing months later to close and know we had written the vision and it plain (as in the Bible). I love vision boards and encourage people to use them. Thanks for this post.

Andrea, my vision board has been a spiritual experience as well. It’s so amazing to see how a culmination of your faith can create your dreams and make them come true. Thanks for commenting.

I just got an app for vision boards! I can make different ones with it so I’m going to do a business one and a personal one.

Yes, vision boards really help and since I am a visual person, they really work for me. Very therapeutic.

Even though I like the good old fashioned magazine cutouts, markers, and physical layout of VBs, I’m interested in this app of yours Robyn. What is it and is it compatible with Android?
Robyn Wright of RobynsOnlineWorld.com says
Sadly only iOS for the app right now

I have been doing vision albums for years but in the past four boards have been the medium of choice. I have for the past few weeks been getting all of the pictures, phrases and words together to do the one for 2012. It’s going to be so much fun assembling it. I have found since I have been ill a lot of the personal intermingles with the professional.

Hello…yes, I am in the process of having mine complete by the end of the year. Like yourself, Cubicle Chick, I have not decided if I will share mine. I guess we will see. I am looking forward to taking some time and working on it and to place it in my personal work area.

I have been doing vision boards for quite some time now. I first got into it after watching The Secret. It is a MUST to actually visualize your goals and have a constant reminder. I would suggest putting it in a place that you see everyday…office, bathroom, computer desktop..you name it. Also helps if you are looking to lose weight. Put up pictures of body types and excursuses.

Great minds think alike boo!
My little boo boos were creating some vision boards with me recently. They told I can share theirs so I will be in a post coming before the year is out. Some of mine are private as well but I may find something I can share 🙂

I love vision boards. This past weekend my boyfriend was putting together a new bed set for me and I happened to find my old vision board from 2010 that was hiding behind the headboard of my bed, so he was checking it out and seeing that I had certain goals like “Fall in love with a man that loves me back just as much” plus other goals set for my health and even silly things like stop biting my nails. It’s cool to see that some of those goals have been reached! 🙂

I have known about them and read about them and always plan to do one, but never have… hmmmm i think this year i am really going to try it and focus on writing out my goals and really work on them because i start things and don’t always finish. plus i have so many ideas and so many things that i want to do that i sometimes get overwhelmed, so i should put my priorities on paper and work from there. a vision board will hopefully help me see my plans & goals and really focus forward!

I luv luv luv vision boards. I have mine next to my dresser mirror where I can see it everyday. My children and I all have one. I told them that we were gonna update them over Christmas break. Vision Boards are a must. It’s a great tool to assist you in making your goals/dreams come to fruition.

I may sound stupid for this, but I have no idea what a vision board is.. Sorry, I’m going to have to google it..

Hi, fascinating article suggest you take your boards OUT OF THE CLOSET though so you can see them throughout the day in mainstream light etc. If you and your readers would like to see a free chapter of the bestselling book THE VISION BOARD you can go to http://tinyurl.com/seeinsidebook and you’ll se more than 30 pages on visioning and vision boards. This post was right on time!!
I was talking to my oldest daughter about the idea of her creating a vision board for herself. She loved the idea and I promised her that I would buy her a board and the supplies that she would need for it, but I had forgotten about it! Your post was a very timely reminder!! The two of us will be creating her board together! 🙂 ~Thanks for sharing!

Vision boards really do work. I’m a visual person so visual cues and reminders work for me. Besides, never underestimate the motivational value of eye candy.
