What happens when you bring 3 popular chefs, an entertaining expert, and a health and wellness enthusiast to daytime television to co-host a show about food? If ABC has anything to say about it, then it will be a show filled with ratings gold. The Chew (a sister program to The View), hopes to make a positive splash on the daytime TV line-up, showing that cooking and food can be an entertaining draw during what is usually held for soap operas. Replacing the long running All My Children and the incomparable Erica Kane, The Chew hopes to reach the audience that is into food and fun.
The Chew’s co-hosts will focus on food, lifestyle, health and wellness, bringing a new energy to the daytime television lineup. Encompassing a time which has been known as All My Children territory (the soap was axed to make room for The Chew after being on air for 40 years), ABC is hoping that viewers will be into a program that covers not only food, but it’s preparation, and healthy benefits.
The Chew features a rotating cast: Chef and restauranteur Mario Batali, Chef and restauranteur Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Chef, business owner, and former contestant on Bravo’s Top Chef, TLC What Not To Wear‘s Clinton Kelly, and Daphne Oz, Author and daughter of Dr. Mehmet Oz. With a line-up of undeniable star chefs and TV personalities, you would think that The Chew has it in the bag.
Or do they? As someone who is skeptical of TV shows on daytime TV (unless it’s The View of course), The Chew may be a hard sell. Soap fans are still upset about All My Children going off the air and could take the momentum with them. If you aren’t a celebrity infused talk show (i.e. Ellen or The View) or a court program (see Judge Judy and People’s Court), it may be hard for a new daytime show on the big four to find a niche.
I guess time will tell.
The Chew premieres on ABC on Monday, September 26th 1 pm EST/12pm CST. I will be tuning in, at least in the beginning, to see if it’s worthy.
Are you ready for The Chew?

I am so looking forward to this! The only person I don’t know is Daphne Oz but I love all the rest of them!!! But it will be weird that 4 the 1st time in my lifetime All My Children isn’t on.

I love Carla from Top Chef so she is the draw for me. I also watched AMC (I’ve been a fan for the last 3 years), so I am still a little miffed that it won’t be on anymore. *sadface*

I’m not usually a fan of shows like this and I also try to keep the tv off during the day.
But I like Carla Hall, Mario Batali and Clinton Kelly, so I will most likely check it out.
I hadn’t hear about this show yet so thanks for the tip!

No problem. Anne. I will give it a few views myself. It has the makings of being a great show.
Ellen Smith says
This is really a fun show, I love the combination of food and talk.
It’s nice 🙂

Sounds more like something you’d see on Food Network or HGTV or something… Cable networks have made a killing w/ niche audiences and it looks more and more like network TV is trying to do that same.
I’m at work all day, so no daytime TV for me…. but I wonder, did that other View-esque show do well? Can’t remember what it was called…

Danielle, I think you are referring to The Talk. It is still on CBS but they made some co-host adjustments. I think Kris Jenner has been added to the line-up.
