Yesterday, I had the honor of hosting an event for Show Me the Blog called Monetizing 101: How to Earn an Income with Your Blog and Social Networks. It was held downtown at Whiz Tech Cafe and also featured four other bloggers who discussed how they earn an income with their blogs.
Looking back on the event, and the entire Show Me the Blog community, I am still flabbergasted at its success—when I first created Show Me the Blog Social Media and Blogging Conference last year, I had no idea if it would go over well. All I knew is that if I didn’t try to organize my own conference that was right here in the St. Louis area, I would be leaving myself open to have someone else do it.
If I have learned anything it is never give a good idea away. If you want it done, execute it yourself.
So Show Me the Blog was born and on October 23, 2010, my vision was realized. As I blogged back then, it wasn’t perfect but I did it.
My goal from that point was to use Show Me the Blog to help other bloggers and social media types in the community be just that—a community. And each month when I hold an event, it feels just like that; a community of bloggers who genuinely care for one another.
It feels like a big ole family reunion at times.
So on this day, I want you to dream big and execute bigger. You have ideas and they are powerful—but an idea is nothing unless you execute it. Even if you fail, at least you can say that you tried. And that isn’t failure in my book.
I plan on organizing an event each month leading up to conference which will be held this year on October 21st and October 22nd at Lumiere Place Casino and hotel downtown. I would love it if you could attend and it’s not just for local bloggers!
Next month’s event will called Diversity in St. Louis Social Media: An Evening of Discussion. If you are in the area, I hope you can join us!
Have you organized or executed a plan to its destiny? Is there an idea now that you are harvesting but sitting on because you are scared? What are you waiting for? Let’s chat about it!

Absolutely inspiring, Danyelle! The feeling of achievement in the face of such a huge challenge is irreplaceable. =) I had a similar experience during the conference I went to in Chile. We were trying to bring together people from different areas of knowledge and different educational backgrounds, but it was amazing when everyone considered the conference a huge success by the end of those two weeks. =)
I’ve subscribed and looking forward to hearing more of your successes and tips! =)

I got several ideas in my mind but I think it’s important to take some time to consider whether an idea is good or not. I dun want to waste the precious years of my life on an idea that will go nowhere.

I so wish I could have been there. I took every remedy I had in the house and nothing worked and trust me, you all would not have wanted me there in my state. So glad it was such a success, but I’m not surprised. Danyelle you need to seriously give yourself more credit for being a get-it-done type of gal. I am blown away at how easily it seems for you to plan and execute all these events!
Looking forward to the next event for sure!

It does feel like a big old family reunion which is very comforting! When you get that feeling, you know you’ve done something right so many kudos to you for all that you’re doing!
You know I support you and look forward to all the events!

“…”If you want it done, execute it yourself” is a hard lesson I learned. Thanks for an inspiring post.
