Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting President of the St. Louis Board of Alderman, Lewis E. Reed during our Blogging While Brown meet-up event. He invited us to attend a homecoming celebration he was hosting along with several other St. Louis luminaries for World Champion Boxer Devon Alexander, who’s next fight is on August 7th at the Scottrade Center.
The event was being held at St. Louis City Hall and it was the place to be seen in St. Louis Sunday evening. St. Louis celebrities such as Chuck Berry, rapper Chingy, and Cedric the Entertainer were on hand to welcome home their St. Louis son and wish him luck for his fight against former champion Andriy Kotelnik.
We enjoyed food by Ozzie’s Restaurant and Sports Bar as well several other local eateries. There was free beer and wine for the VIP set upstairs in the St. Louis City Hall rotunda.
I had the pleasure of meeting Olympian Jackie Joyner-Kersee as well as Mike Tyson’s brother, Jeff, who is also a boxer. I was hoping to see Don King who was listed as speaker for the event (and also the promoter of Alexander’s boxing match) but to no avail, King was not at the party.
Here are a few pics from the event which served as a summer St. Louis highlight for me.
Seen pictured are: Chuck Berry, Mike Tyson’s brother Jeff Tyson, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Mayor Francis Slay, @FeteSociety, Me & Jeff Tyson, Credic the Entertainer with young fan, St. Louis’s Chingy, & the man of the night, boxer Devon Alexander
According to the press release, “Devon along with other sponsors and hosts will present a check to St. Louis City youth boxing with the proceeds from the event.”
Thank you to President Lewis Reed for the invite and tickets!
