Business travel is one of those types of things that Cubes cannot avoid. There are times that business must be done in a different office or timezone, and as a go-getter, you have to travel in order to get things done. Many of us make 3 to 4 business trips a year while some of you readers travel up to 3 times a month. No matter the frequency or the reason, packing effective and light for business travel is one of the most important things you can do. It helps keep you organized and sane and lets you get the most out of your trip.
Here are 5 Cubicle Chick tips for business travel:
Pack light and forget the extras:
When packing for business, forget the extras and the “maybe I will wear this, maybe I won’t” attire. Bring a suit for each day you will be out of town and an outfit for the evening, along with sleepwear and cosmetic essentials. In terms of shoes, you can wear the same shoes more than once, so don’t bring a pair of shoes for each outfit. The less you bring, the less you will spend picking out things to wear. And you will cut down on your baggage costs, which can be up to $25.00 per checked-in bag on some airlines.
Make a list:
Before you pack, make a list of things you need to bring. Map out your attire for the days you will be gone. When you pack, have the list handy and only pack what is on the list.
Important essentials:
Always have your medicines and important needs handy in your purse or carry-on—never pack them in your checked-in luggage just in case your luggage gets lost or stolen. If you wear contacts, always pack an extra set with you just in case the ones you are wearing get ripped or torn.
Charge it up:
Charge all of your electronics that you are taking on the trip with you before you leave. Pack all chargers in a plastic Ziploc bag and keep it in your purse, laptop bag, or carry-on. Again, if your luggage is lost or stolen, you still have the ability to charge your electronics and not buy new chargers.
Check the web:
Always check the website for your airline for restrictions or luggage changes (it seems this information changes daily on some airlines). Some airlines have applications for your smartphone that will allow you to check flight information). In addition, make sure you check the airline website the day of your trip for flight status as well as the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) for other important information that may be pertinent to your flight.
Business travel may be one thing you can’t avoid but you can make it as simple and seamless as possible so you get the most out of your trip. Here’s to safe travels!
