If you are reading this, then that means you’ve made it to the final quarter of the year. You’ve probably weathered a storm or three, and it is now time to focus on ending the year on a positive note. If you work for someone else, or you are your own boss running things, it doesn’t matter how you began the year—it is all about the finish. The fourth quarter is all about redemption, regaining momentum, a wrapping it up in a flourish of positivity.
Everything that you have, or haven’t done, brings you to this point. It is now time to take the next 85 or so days and go hard in the paint. You’ve got work to do and I am here to help you get it done.
How to finish the year strong and prosperous? Let me count the ways:
Filter out distractions
Let’s keep it real—you only have a little bit of time left. You can still hit those goals that you set earlier in the year, but you are going to have to do the work. One way to get more work done is to filter out distractions. It’s like this; whatever isn’t aligned with your goals or purpose needs to go or at the minimum, dealt with sparingly and during non-work hours.
I wrote about how to filter out distractions while working from home previously, so let me give you tips on how to do so while at work. Turn off notifications which can help you stay on task. This includes email programs like Outlook and of course social media notifications. Keep a Do Not Disturb sign on your office door when working to maximize your time efficiency, and try to utilize interns and admins to help share the workload.
Get laser focused
We have a tendency to be all over the place. A lot of this has to do with social media and always being plugged in to every happening and instance going on in the world. This can be very overwhelming and counterproductive.
Just stop.
Instead, minimize your social media usage and get knee deep in your work related goals. Let go of FOMO. You may miss out on a photo of your friend’s daughter taking her first step, but it’ll be there when you return, I promise.
Focus on one task at a time and try not to multitask. Click HERE to read more on how multitasking can ruin your laser focus.
Work with a mentor
If you don’t have a mentor, I feel bad for you son! Yes, having a mentor is critical to your overall success. If you don’t have one currently, work on getting one ASAP. Reach out to people you know who are successful, have a proven track record, and can best lead you to be your best self. If you have a mentor already, tap into their guidance and expertise. Schedule regular meetings with them from now until the end of the year and make sure to also work with an accountability partner to help push you to reach your benchmarks.
Work your money
Investing in your career and/or business is beneficial in so many ways. If you haven’t garnered the results you’ve been desiring, it may be that you need to pump some money into your enterprise. Hire a coach who can help you with ideas, programs, and ways to make money. Enroll in that class or online course that can assist you in priming the pump so you can create more income streams. Use these last three months to hit your income goals. You have to spend money to make money—stop being cheap.
Tap into your network
Being humble and trying to do it on your own will only get you so far. Ask your friends and family to help you spread the word about what it is that you do. They may not know that it would help you if they shared that graphic from your Facebook page or read your latest blog post and left a comment. Reach in and pull a tribe together who can hustle with you. This is the fourth quarter with no time to spare—tap into your network.
Just do it
This is more than a tagline, it is a lifestyle! All year, you may have been sitting on ideas that could help you get to the next level. Why? Stop being scared and launch already. Just do it! Even with the fear. You can work through the feeling scared part to ultimately doing what it is that you set out to do. No one said you have to be fearless. But you do have to be proactive with action.
In closing, I want to say this. Whether you can or cannot do something is purely on you. Close out the year walking into the next with goals accomplished and a foundation to do even better next year. You’ve got everything you need inside of you to be a success! I believe in you.

Thanks for this. I’ve been bewailing how behind I am (and I’m not that far behind). I have achieved several of my goals this year and am actually getting more stuff done that I thought I would. I do have a lot of work to do, but the time has been set aside in which to do it. I can. Thnks for the reminder!“
