Life can be overwhelming, I know. Add to it all that you have to do both in your personal and professional life, and its a wonder that you have time left in the day. Most of us work to be a badass in our field, but the time that is spent to obtain that title can leave us a little stressed, and perhaps even burnt out. That is where Work Life Management comes in—to help you manage both sectors of your life so that you get the best of both worlds.
Work Life Balance and Work Life Management are tools that I use in order to efficiently navigate my life. And there are five vital things that I do on the daily that help me get the job done.
Check out my list of 5 Things You Can Do Now For Better Work Life Management, and see if they can help you as well:
Get Your Email In Order
Many of us receive way too many emails, which clogs up our digital space and wastes our time. One way you can improve your Work Life Management is by simply unsubscribing to companies and advertisements you don’t care to receive. You can do one better by organizing your emails and having one email dedicated to business, the other to personal, and the other to, say, online shopping. Then you know exactly what type of emails will be in what account, and when to check it. If you are looking for a way to help you unsubscribe to emails efficiently, you can look into Unroll.me, which lets you do so with “one click”. I’ve used it in the past and it does the trick.
Declutter
Decluttering is important in your business and personal life. Make sure that your workspace is neat and tidy so you don’t waste time looking for things. I tend to declutter every two weeks and get rid of catalogs, junk mail, excess papers, and just stuff that I don’t need. This regular purging gives me breathing room and helps me work efficiently.
Prioritize
Not everything has to be done now, but not everything can be put off either. I start each day with a to-do list of items I want to accomplish in the day. The most important items are at the top of the list so that I make sure to do them. This is pretty Type A, but can work when you are trying to maximize your work schedule as well as making sure your personal needs are being met.
Applications and Tech
Technology to enhance your Work Life Management, not take away from it. There are apps out there that can help you with time management as well as show you how much time you are spending on certain tasks, to help you improve your efficiency. RescueTime is a great site that shows you how much time you are spending on certain websites and apps, and gives you a detailed report based on what it is you are doing. Oftentimes we don’t think we are wasting time, RescueTime can help you visually see where your time is going. It has certainly helped me improve my productivity.
Know When to Fold ‘Em
Knowing when to step away from the computer is a gift. But not many of us use it to our advantage. Placing time limits on working while at home is a great way to make sure your Work Life Management is working for you. For instance, unless there is a deadline or an emergency, I try not to do work in my home office after 8pm. This allows me premium family time and gives me respite from working too much. Staying focused on what is important is key. And your loved ones will thank you.
There is nothing wrong with wanting more balance and better management of your Work Life. Putting a few of these items in action will help you in your quest for having the best life that you can. What are some of tips you use to help you with Work Life Management?
