Men’s fashion is ever expanding and I, for one, am a fan. I love seeing a well-dressed man who actually took the time to give thought into his appearance. With emerging brands encouraging freedom to be you without being coined as “metrosexual,” there is an upsurge in fashionable fellas. The quickest way to stand out in a crowd is by adding personal touches in the form of accessories. You may ask what falls in to the accessories category for men. Well, look no further, I am providing you with a list of accessories that separate the men from the boys. Check out this Tumblr feed and my HIS Style Pinterest board for more inspiration.
Ties
The piece that can tie your look together is ironically, a tie! We saw a phase of skinny ties being all of the rage but the slightly wider tie is making a comeback. Use this opportunity to play with depth by contrasting your tie and shirt. Your tie does not always have to be solid with a patterned shirt nor does a patterned tie have to be paired with a solid tie. Check out the image below on how to play with patterns the right way. Texture is big this season. A wool tie is a little bit out of the box and provides just the right amount of texture to your outfit.
Jewelry
Most men keep jewelry at a minimum, wearing only a watch and ring if they are married. Gone are the days of the herringbone chain and rope necklace, however, I think it is totally cool to add a little bit of individuality to your look. It is completely appropriate to rock a simple leather bracelet or necklace if you are on a casual vibe. A signet ring or class ring would be more appropriate for formal occasions. Vintage jewelry is a great way to express your individuality and gives you a chance to tell a cool story about how you came to own it.
Watches
If you want to dip your toe in the jewelry pool but are not ready to dive head first, then starting off with a watch or two is perfect. A dear male friend of mine has been rocking a Tag Heuer watch since our college days. He has appreciated quality and knows a good investment when he sees it. If you only have one watch, pick a style that will look good in any occasion. You cannot go wrong with a watch that has a brushed stainless steel body and a large face with an analogue display.
Cuff Links
Cuff links are the luxury vehicle of men’s wardrobes. They are not always necessary but sure do look good when you take them for a spin. For every day wear, keep it simple. Stay conservative and go with simple shapes, such as knots or cubes. For other occasions, feel free to go a little opulent or a little quirky!
Pocket Squares
To complete a dapper look, then reach for a pocket square. Pocket squares are typically formed using silk handkerchiefs. Silk is a luxurious fabric and relatively easy to work with when forming. A fine-spun linen or cotton will fit the bill if silk is not an option for you. Some men wear a pocket square daily but I have noticed that the young professionals in my city reserve them for formal or black tie affairs. Did you know that there are several ways to fold your pocket square? Check the video below and try your hand at it!
Scarves
Two of my favorite seasons are just around the corner, Fall and Winter. Scarves are dual functioning as they are practical for keeping you warm but they can also be a statement piece that brings an otherwise simple outfit together. Go crazy and pick up two or three scarves this season and just play with them. Pick a solid, a colored scarf and also one with a pattern. Check out the image below to see different ways to style your scarf.
So guys, what accessories will you be rocking this season? Are you willing to try something new?
