February is Black History Month, and what better way to celebrate it than to enjoy movies, programs, and entertainment specials that celebrate and showcase the diversity in us all? OnDemand, offered by most cable providers, is a fabulous way to watch the programming you want, when you want it. This month, Diversity on Demand is offering plenty of programming options that are educational, inspirational, and motivational for Black History Month.
Digital subscribers can tune into these programs whenever they want, and enjoy them with their friends and family. I’ve taken a look at the line-up and it’s quite impressive. There’s something for everyone, and you probably won’t want to miss what’s on the line-up. Here’s an overview of some of the programming Diversity on Demand is offering this month via OnDemand:
Milestones In Black History
There are several offerings that examine the history of the struggles and strife, the tragedies and the triumphs of African Americans in the U.S., from the time of Lincoln to the Civil Rights era, including “Lincoln: American Mastermind.” For children and adults alike, there’s “The Tuskegee Airmen,” recounts the true story of how a group of African- American WWII pilots overcame racist opposition to become one of the finest U.S. fighter groups in history, and “First to Fight: The Black Tankers of WWII.”
Profiles In Courage
The biographies of influential African Americans come to life in dramatic profiles and stories of individuals who may be less known but perhaps should be more so, such as legendary base- ball great Curt Flood in the docu- mentary “The Curious Case of Curt Flood” and the five wrongly imprisoned teens in “The Central Park Five.” Drama movies like “Flight” starring Denzel Washing- ton and “The Help” starring Viola Davis, and TV programs such as “House of Lies” starring Don Cheadle, showcased award-worthy performances from notable African-American A-list actors. Viewers can also get a close look at what it’s like living in the crossfire of America’s drug war in the Emmy Award winning miniseries “The Corner”.
Pride, Passion and Pain
For sports buffs, there are important shows that exemplify the contributions and struggles of athletes, such as “Joe Louis: America’s Hero…Betrayed,” and “Breaking the Huddle: The Integration of College Football.”
That’s Entertainment
Music aficionados can celebrate the true artistry of entertainer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte in “Sing Your Song,” then laugh along with “Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy.” Viewers everywhere can share their passions for Black History Month programming and see what’s waiting for them On Demand at www.facebook.com/ DiversityOnDemand.
You can also tune into historical favorites like The Loving Story and Betty and Coretta.
See Oscar award nominee for Best Actor, Denzel Washington in the movie Flight, which was one of the best movies released last year (in my opinion, of course).

I celebrate culture in a couple of ways – after living in Japan for 3 years I learned a lot about their culture but more importantly our culture here in the US. My fiance is from The Gambia in Africa so we celebrate both his culture and my culture and are always learning and supporting each other’s culture. It is amazing to love and be loved by someone who comes from a very different culture and it is so rewarding is so many ways.

I celebrate culture by attending festivals, movies, and reading books on the subject. Passing down family recipes and stories from my elders are also ways I help to keep culture alive!
I celebrate culture by exposing myself and children to new things. This helps me to broaden my thoughts and reduce any preconceived prejudices. I learned to accept everyone where they are.
I like both on facebook! I celebrate culture by trying to follow what’s customary in my culture, especially with regards to respecting my elders. I have also picked up some of the more superstitious parts of my culture, like not washing your hair on the new year since it will wash away your good luck!
