I’ve been hit by the crafting bug lately, and thought I would try my hand at making some of my holiday decor this season. Each year it seems that I spend lots of money on items that I either am never able to find again, or that break before I am able to use them for the next year. My creative juices have been wanting to make a few items that are fun, fabulous, and easy to do it yourself.
I came up with these 2 Easy DIY Holiday Decor Crafts Using Chalkboard Paper by chance. Mostly inspired by my 8 year old daughter, who loves playing school and writing on chalkboard paper.
Small Vases with Chalkboard Tags
These were easy and pretty fun to make! I went to Michaels and purchased the small vases you see here for $1.99 a piece. You simply need ribbon or string, chalkboard paper, and a shape to cut out the tags with. I used a circle on the top of a bottle I had around the house.
Simply take your shape and outline it on the chalkboard paper. Then using a pair of scissors, cut out the shape. You can use a hole puncher to cut a hole in the tag, which you place the ribbon through and tie it around the vase.
Take a piece of chalk and write on the tag. Holiday slogans make for great decor.
You can use these small vases to put peppermint in, or fill with candy canes, or other items.
Countdown Chalkboard Candle
I purchased a very glittery candle because of it’s awe factor, but saw quickly once I got it home how messy it was. To curtail the glittery mess, I decided to take a piece of chalkboard paper to cover the sides of the candle. When trying to decide what to do next, my daughter said it would be neat to have a Christmas Countdown on the candle.
Viola!
Now of course, this candle cannot be lit while the chalkboard paper is around it, but it makes a great decorative piece to place in your home.
Simply measure the width of your candle and cut it out of the chalkboard paper. Glue the two edges at the back of the candle and you are done.
And you can write whatever you want on the candle. HO HO HO, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays are just a few examples. Get creative!
Here’s a picture of the items I used to make both DIY crafts:
