Whoa, I am going to show my age here! I have had a cellphone since 1998. The very first cellphone I had was a bulky phone with huge buttons, a green screen, and DOS looking lettering, I thought I was uber cool for having a mobile phone during a time when most people didn’t, but looking back on it, that was one hideous device! Compared to what I have now, I was living an analog life!
Fast forward a few years when I switched cellphone companies because I thought I was getting a good deal. I selected this carrier because I was also getting my soon to be teenage son a phone for safety reasons, and wanted a plan that gave me a discount for having more than one line. I was pretty happy with this carrier, until the unthinkable happened.
They disconnected our lines.
I paid the bill at one of their payment kiosks located in their store, but I guess I paid it less 38 cents. So I was surprised the next day when a family member called me on my home phone saying they tried to call me on my cellphone but it was disconnected. Disconnected? That couldn’t be!
I immediately called my provider to see what the issue was, since I know I paid the bill. And I was met with their standard slogan when you are disconnected because on non-payment. “Would you like to restore service today for your past due balance of thirty eight cents?”
Really? You disconnected me because of a whole 38 cents?
After gaining my composure, I asked for her manager, who promptly restored my service and apologized for the error. And when my contract was up with said company, I did not renew. I got out of there!
Picking a cellphone company can be tricky. But it’s important to find one that doesn’t treat you like a number, and who won’t cut you off because you owe them 38 cents.
Here’s a cute video which says it better than I can! :
With so many choices, you’d think cellphone companies would get it together and offer superior service. Don’t you agree?
