A few weeks ago, I began seeing a lot of posts on my social networks regarding SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act). To be honest, I paid it no mind, thinking it would just somehow go away. But after some prodding from a few online friends whom I really respect, I looked into SOPA further and realized it was an issue I just couldn’t “ignore”. As someone who has been on the Internet for 14 plus years, I really value my rights and freedoms. I also make a living utilizing the Internet, so it’s important for me to be able to run my businesses without feeling like I am being impeded in any way. While I have never knowingly used someone else’s material online without their permission, SOPA’s language is vague and threatens the very fiber of the Internet. After reading about SOPA at length, I know it is something that I cannot support.
Therefore, TheCubicleChick.com will be “blacked-out” on Tuesday, January 18th.
Yes, I will miss the page views, comments, and traffic, but it’s a small price to pay to show my support. I am a teeny weeny site in the grand scheme of things, but that doesn’t mean that my voice (or site) doesn’t matter. I am in solidarity of those who are against SOPA and the freedoms it hinders.
I must disclose that when you arrive on my site on 1/18/12, you will receive a message that states that my site is being blacked out due to my support against SOPA. However, you will have an option to click through to the site if you wish. I have a giveaway that is currently in process, and I want to give all of my readers the opportunity to enter and win the item if they choose.
I appreciate your patience through tomorrow’s strike, and I will be back in full force on 1/19/12.
