Ahh…kids say the darndest things, I tell ya.
Last night while driving around running errands, I mentioned a friend of mine who I met on Twitter and my fifteen year old son wrinkled his nose. I asked why he looked like he just smelled rotten meat, and he tells me with a straight face, “Twitter is for old people….”
I rolled my eyes. I asked him why he thought that and he told me, “Mom, CNN and all of those type of networks have Twitter pages. That is all they talk about. Of course those shows are for old people.”
I countered with, “Well CNN and all of the other networks have Facebook pages too. Does that mean Facebook is for old people?”
He thought about it for a minute then said, “No because Facebook was originally created for high school and college kids. Then the old people tried to take over. But it’s still for us kids.”
I love this little guy.
Why he thinks Twitter is for old fogies is beyond me, his reasoning made no sense, but it was kind of cute in an annoying way.
Twitter is my favorite networking site. The real time microblogging it offers is right up my alley. I have met so many wonderful people I wouldn’t have otherwise met if it were not for Twitter. My blog has grown on the strength alone of Twitter and my followers. I love Facebook but its like talking in a room full of people. Twitter is like talking in front of a stadium.
I can communicate with many more people on Twitter without them being in my immediate circle.
If Twitter is indeed for old people, hand me my cane and Depends now. Old folks home, here I come!

I have to agree with your son. Twitter really is for old people. Facebook was created for College kids (I was in college when I first joined) and then the old people (CNN) started getting pages. I just hope the young kids don’t take over twitter like the old people did facebook.lol

This is really interesting, I just read this article earlier: http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20100204/ART… and one similar with more statistics the other day.

Hmmm…that's really interesting! I don't really like Facebook that much. It seems clunky and not as "real-time" to me as Twitter, but that's just me. I do use it though, because it seems everyone has a Facebook page and a lot of people I know seem intimidated by Twitter. I love Twitter and am definitely an addict. 🙂

That's funny, because it seems more older people are jumping on Facebook than Twitter. I know grandparents that are now on FB, where as they have no clue how to tweet lol

I find that funny. My partner and I are both avid users of Twitter and Facebook. We're only in our early twenties of course but when I was 15 all the "cool kids" wanted to be 20!
Unfortunately, as with any social media site – Entrepreneurial spirit always takes over and most of the profiles or updates end up being someone who wants to sell you something, which is probably where your son gets the idea that it's all for 'old people' (I resent that term, by the way!). But when the something is a fabulous pair of shoes, I don't really care.
If Twitter is for old people, I'm off to get some diamond-set dentures!

At first I was opposed to twitter because I didn't get it, and I am 27 years old. But after my boyfriend explained the networking capabilities, I have been on it nonstop. I find myself on twitter more than facebook. I think I'm addicted!

How strange is that, i had a similar conversation with my cousins daughter a few weeks ago. The reason being the family where moving away (have now) and she wanted to be able to keep up with everyone back here. I suggested twitter and she nearly passed out & said that her pals wouldn't bee seen on there as that is where all the old mums catch up LOL
Gave me a great laugh and after explaining haw some of her favourite pop stars/groups tweet she soon changed her tune & joined as did many of her friends.
I love twitter & if it means i am classed as old for using it then i will be joining you in the old folks home LOL xx

I can kinda see his point. I have a FB page but I definitely use Twitter more – but then in my case, I use Tweetdeck so I have both open at once.
But I talk to all my nieces & nephews on FB sure – they don't seem to know (or care) about twitter;-)

I have a whole load of nieces and nephews they all have the myspace and now most are moving on to facebook, not one of them has a twitter! haha
