Welp, it’s official. My daughter is 21.
One day, she was starting first grade, then middle school, then high school. I’m dropping her off at college for her freshman year, and BOOM, she’s now a college junior who is 21 years old. How time flies when you are parenting. All the joys, pains, and everything in between lead you here—to when your child is officially legal.
If you aren’t new to the blog, you may have read my previous letters to my daughter. But this one hits differently. She’s a full-fledged woman now embarking on a new GROWN life.
Here’s my letter to my daughter as she turns 21. Yes, I am experiencing all the feels.
Dear Chicklet,
You aren’t my Chicklet anymore. You are a full-grown CHICK with a newfound confidence and zest for life. You are amazing! You’ve come into your own. College has been good for you and living away from home has given you more experiences that are shaping you into the woman you are becoming.
I am so proud of you and blessed to be your mom! The way that you’ve handled all of the challenges you’ve faced since being away from home has me feeling like I must’ve done something right with you. Your dedication to excelling in school while making good choices is something that I’ve prayed for.

The world is yours! You have everything you need to move forward and climb your way up to where you want to be. Daughter, you are an incredible human with a good heart–please do not let this world change you. We need more kind and caring individuals like YOU. My prayer for you is that you can stay a solidly good person with the negativity of an unkind world affect you.
You’ve been doing all the right things professionally and with your college career. I hope that you are also able to continue your growing friendships, solidifying bonds for a lifetime. I also know that you have a desire to have a boyfriend. Now that you are older and wiser, I hope you find someone who loves you, prays for you, and treats you with tender loving care. You deserve all of that and more!
Thank you for being the best daughter a mom could ever have. You are the BEST!–please don’t ever forget that.
I look forward to seeing your continued growth as you continue your journey. Please remember that I am always in your corner and you can lean on me for anything.
The best is yet to come.
Love,
Mom.
