Something about fate and Christmas movies always has me at hello.
Think of “The Preacher’s Wife,” where fate intervenes as an angel. He’s sent to help a preacher’s wife and family renew ties and bonds. Or “It’s a Wonderful Life,” where a near-death experience causes a man to revisit his past, present, and future. Afterward, he learns how important he is to the community and his family.
Fate is a well-used trope in Christmas movies, and the same is true in Netflix’s “Meet Me Next Christmas,” a holiday offering that tells an epic love story with a modern-day twist.
Here’s the synopsis:
On a quest to meet the man of her dreams, a hopeless romantic races across New York City to find a ticket to a sold-out Pentatonix Christmas concert.
Actress and singer Christina Milian plays Layla, whose flight is canceled on Christmas Eve as she tries to get home for the Pentatonix concert. She meets James (Kofi Siriboe) in the airport lounge, and although she has a man at home, the two become friends during their time together. He is into her, but she has a boyfriend, so he comes up with a plan: if they are single at Christmas next year, they will meet at the Pentatonix concert.
You can only imagine what happens next. It’s next Christmas; newly single Layla tries her best to get tickets to the show, but they are sold out, so she hires a personal concierge, Teddy (Devale Ellis), who is charged with helping her get a ticket. Chaos ensues, and well—I think you know the rest.
Why you should watch
What I love most about this movie is the diverse cast. The chemistry between Christina and the two male leads is believable. It doesn’t appear forced or fake, and you don’t know which suitor to root for. The music Pentaonix adds to the festive vibe, and they aren’t bad actors, either.
This movie makes a great Netflix and Chill evening during the holiday season. It has everything a holiday rom-com should: love, music, seasonality, and a happy ending for everyone.
It’s charming, romantic, funny, and endearing. All the right seasonings for the perfect Christmas movie night.
My snowflake rating
I give this one 4 out of 5 snowflakes.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my Netflix “Meet Me Next Christmas” review! Watch it and let me know what you think!
