There are so many things that we are going through right now. No matter how hard you may try to look at the positive, there’s something negative around the corner. I’ve been spending more time with my daughter and less time on the internet for this very reason—it can be too much.
While pretending like everything is fine when it really is not isn’t the answer, subjecting yourself consistently to distressing news and information isn’t the antidote, either. We all need to be able to tap into some goodness when we need it.
That is one of the many reasons why I like affirmations. The dictionary defines affirmations as emotional support or encouragement, and these days, we need all of the emotional support and encouragement we can get.
I am sharing Five Affirmations for Trying Times to help encourage, and maybe even inspire you.
1. I am a resilient being, and I am capable of surviving life’s challenges.
Your bounce-back is strong, sister! You’ve overcome so many obstacles, trials, and tribulations, and anything you are experiencing today serves as another test that you will certainly pass. You don’t shrink in adversity—you thrive in it.
You too will get through this. Hang on in there.
2. I will seek calm and refuge consistently regardless of the day’s news.
You will tap into things that calm and relax you. This doesn’t mean that you will ignore the ills of the world, as you are a change-maker. It means that you know when it is time to shut off social media or the news and tap into something that soothes you and gives you food for your soul. You prioritize your self-care consistently, even during times of crisis.

3. My worthiness is not determined by the latest headline.
You are a strong woman, and you don’t have to be defined by society—you live by your own definition.
4. I have a strong community of people who love me unconditionally.
Now more than ever, your community and tribe are important. Make sure to tap into it when needed to get the support and love that you need.
5. I will be the change I want to see in the world.
You don’t just talk about it–you are about it. You are an active part of society who wants to make a positive impact in your community and in your world. You can inspire change—continue to fight the good fight.
Before things get better, they may get worse, but always seek solace in the people and the things that bring you joy.
