Santa was mighty good to my teen, who must’ve been on the NICE list. For over a year, she’s wanted to upgrade her iPhone 6s to a newer version, and she is now the proud owner of a iPhone 8 Plus (click HERE). I’ve discussed the importance of limiting screen time and teen smartphone safety tips with her, so her dad and I felt confident that she was ready to move on up to a larger, newer phone.
I was somewhat concerned that a larger phone would mean that she might drop or damage it, but so far, so good. It helps that we have her phone covered by insurance and use a trusted glass protector for it, should it fall.
After having the device for a few weeks, these are my daughter’s initial thoughts on the iPhone 8.
Easier to read books, etc.
According to The Chicklet, she is reading more books on her device now because a bigger screen makes it easier for her to read her favorite novels and such. This makes me happy because I am a proponent of her reading as many books as much as possible. The large screen real estate encourages her to get books on her phone—ones that I approve of before she downloads.
Better camera.
The iPhone 8 Plus is known for its impressive camera, especially portrait mode. Our travels now will be more enhanced as she will be able to take quality photos with her phone and not have to rely on my bulky DSLR camera
Makes gaming a breeze.
My thirteen year-old is also a gaming aficionado and enjoys playing Minecraft while on the go. A bigger screen means that she can really get the details she wants and is able to build her “worlds” with ease.
Bye, tablet.
Now that she has her new, bigger device, she no longer uses my iPad, which is awesome since she took it over last year to watch YouTube videos on it when we travel. That’s a win for me, because I surely was missing my iPad for sure.
All-in-all, my daughter is Team iPhone 8 Plus and this mom approves. She still has to follow the rules we’ve set forth for her digital boundaries and she has to earn screen time daily.
If you’ve been thinking of upgrading your teen to an iPhone 8 Plus, I say go for it. She’s in love with it (and so am I!).

I’m still rocking with my iPhone 6s, but I’ve seen so many raves about the updated cameras on newer iPhones. Maybe it’s time to upgrade.
