Who says you have to stick to monotone and muted colors at work?
I am always a fan of people wearing their personal style to showcase their individuality. In the workplace in many instances, you can’t always wear what you want. Depending on the dress code of your employer, business professional or business casual is usually a must. This doesn’t mean that you can’t showcase a little color, which can not only brighten up the atmosphere but your mood as well.
In this post, I’m sharing how to wear bold colors at work. You don’t have to settle for beiges and whites and grays and the usual color scheme. Why, breaking out of the box and throwing on some bold colors never hurt anyone, and it can still be utilized within the dress code.
Here’s my tips for how to wear bold colors at work:
Color block it
You don’t want to go overboard with the color, so color blocking is a great way to get the best of both worlds. In this photo, I chose to wear a plum blouse with a neoprene yellow skirt for an optimum effect. The skirt is very bold and vivid, but the plum offsets it just enough to make it suitable for the office and professional too. Doing both a bright top and skirt would’ve been overkill, so color blocking is a helpful solution.
Rock a color you love
I am always rocking a bright pink, lime, or yellow, and they’ve become my signature colors. Wear a bright color that you love and allow that to be your calling card of sorts. Create looks based around that hue and have fun mixing and matching.
Skirt the issue
I am a total fan of skirts for career wear, as they are comfortable and can go from desk to date. You can easily wear bright hued skirt like shown above with a white blouse or chambray top—the possibilities are endless.
Compliment your skin tone
Certain bold hues look good on certain skin tones. Select colors that compliment your complexion., and doing so can give you even more confidence when you are on the job.
Don’t be afraid of color
Even though you are in a professional work environment, you can still utilize bright colors within your look. Don’t be afraid to experiment (unless your dress code strictly forbids you to wear brights)–stick to the dress code (slacks, blazers, dresses, knee length skirts, etc.) but just add some color. If you are too shy to try a bold color out the gate, start with colorful accessories to liven your look.
How to wear bold colors at work? In a nutshell, color block, wear a complimentary color you love, and don’t be afraid to try it.
