Tidy up your home with the little time you have using these must-use cleaning tips.
You are having people over tonight after a 40+ hour work week, and you walk in and your home is a mess! This is no surprise to you since you are barely home during the week! You might have to clean like crazy tonight before your guests arrive (I can’t magically help you now), but I can offer advice to prevent this scenario from happening again!
You can have a tidy house and be a workaholic, just follow these eight cleaning tips! Keep in mind, you can apply these cleaning tips to your office space too.
Multi-task
Make the most out of your time. Put away the dishes while you are brewing your coffee, or wipe down your kitchen counters while browning beef for dinner. The couple of minutes you spend here and there will add up over time.
Have a place for everything
Have you ever spent a morning running around looking for something? Your home can get pretty messy when you only come home to reboot for work. If something doesn’t have a place, get rid of it! Clutter will only complicate things.
Prioritize
Do the more urgent cleaning tasks first. Having clean dishes for the morning is more important than a clean ceiling fan. Things like spills, dishes, and the trash should be taken care of right away. Leave the deep cleaning things for a rainy day.
Clean as you go
Let’s be honest, when you have a day off you don’t want to spend it cleaning your home. It is easiest to keep things clean during your mornings and evenings at home. This means taking the extra minute to put things back where they belong. Don’t leave a mess for later. You know you’ll forget about it!
Keep cleaning supplies in a central area
Have your disinfectant wipes, all-purpose cleaner, hand vacuum, and Swiffer in an area where you can quickly grab them. You’ll be more likely to clean something if it doesn’t involve a trip to the other side of the house.
Give chores to others
You probably give out tasks at work, right? Well, the same thing applies here. Delegate tasks to other people in your home, even the kids (just make it fun). This way you can share the workload instead of having to do it all on your own. We all know you don’t have the time for it!
Create a routine
You will appreciate the stability that comes with a couple of cleaning routines. This can be as simple as doing laundry on Sundays or as intense as a filled monthly calendar. Create a list and put it in a place that you will see everyday.
Cheat when you can
When all else fails, have something or someone else clean your home. This is a great option if you don’t like cleaning at all. Roombas start at $375 and these little robots are priceless. They will vacuum your floors while you are away at work. Just set a time and the days of the week you want the Roomba to clean. You’ll never have to pick up a vacuum again on your days off. If you want to be the ultimate cheater when it comes to cleaning, you can hire a cleaning service.

I’m perfecting the multitask.
I cleaned the kitchen this morning while making my coffee and watching a little of Kelly & Michael.

I always say multi-tasking is a myth (in business), but as it relates to actually maximizing your time, it really works. I’ve had a cleaning company come in once every two weeks to deep clean since I am traveling a lot and growing the empire, and I spot clean and keep it neat between visits. It’s an investment we gladly pay for each month.

I totally agree with what you’re saying here. When it comes to keeping your house in order and good shape, it’s really helpful to clean as you go and not let the mess grow. Thanks so much for all the pointers!

I have a set day a week that I do different chores around the house. Having that routine definitely makes it easier to get things accomplished. It is helpful to hire professionals when you need some deep cleaning done as well. Thanks for sharing!
