Point Six of the Do the Work Project 2015 is uber critical to your success. I know you’ve heard the saying that your success is based off the sum of people you surround yourself with. I often say that your network equals your net worth. I believe this is totally true, as we truly play off of the people who we are close to. There’s a synergy that happens when you align yourself strategically with people who can give you honest feedback, share ideas, and foster innovation and creativity.
This is where a mastermind group comes in. It’s a group of individuals (I call my folk my Thought Leaders) who meet on a regular basis either virtually or in person to connect, network, share ideas, brainstorm, and simply empire build. It’s a collaborative effect that can result in improving your business if you are actively participating. I also call it my “Safe Place”. You know how there are places in the community with the Safe Place sign that lets people know that they can come in and get help without fear? I feel the same away about my mastermind groups. I can totally be myself and put my ideas and thoughts out there without feeling like an idiot—it’s s safe place for me to share my ideas no matter how grandiose they are.
When building your Brain Trust, make sure to select people from different backgrounds and professions. Doing so makes sure that you have a wealth of knowledge in different areas. Select people who have a record of success and accountability. And most importantly, be sure that their drive matches your drive, meaning they are go-getters, proactive business people who can problem-solve and think outside of the box.
Once you’ve got your crew, then it’s time for you all to step your game up:
- Create a place online where you all can chat, share ideas, documents, etc.
- Come up with a schedule and meet in person (or online via Skype, Google Hangout etc.) at least once a month
- Create an agenda so that everyone has equal time and can share their progress story
Once you begin meeting regularly, the rhythm will become second nature and you all will begin to see positive outcomes as a result of the group and the meetings.
