What do I look forward to the most during the holiday season? Of course I love seeing the lights and decor and spending time with family and friends who I don’t get to see that often. I enjoy decking the halls and wrapping gifts with my kiddos, and the festive holiday platters that are always plentiful at gatherings and events. I enjoy giving to those less fortunate and to those I love. There is so much to love about this time of year. But what I love most is creating and indulging in holiday traditions that have been passed on from generation to generation.
One such tradition in my family is that we all get to open one gift on Christmas Eve. This is something that stemmed from my dad’s side of the family. They all woke up at midnight and opened all of their gifts, and this is how I also grew up. I didn’t have to wait until Christmas morning to see if I had been naughty or nice. When I began my family, I changed it a little by allowing my son to open one of his gifts. And of course when my daughter was born, she too, indulged. And now on Christmas Eve for the past 5+ years, we all gather at my home and everyone who comes opens one gift. It is something we all look forward to every year.

We have a family get together to bake cookies- and the kids decorate them. It is always a fun, relaxed time to catch up with each other, that I always look forward to.
I look forward to making the dressing and turkey with my father using our grandmother’s recipe. That dressing is the one dish my siblings and I will fight over.

Our favorite holiday tradition is to make Christmas cookies together while listening to Christmas music.
I love it when my family gets in our pjs and decorates the tree.
I look most forward to Santa. I like to take the kids to see Santa and put out cookies and all other things that make them believe.
I enjoy opening in gifts in our pjs before the rest of company arrives.
Our favorite is reading the Christmas box book and watching the movie. I have read the book every Christmas season since my dad bought it for me years ago.
Our Christmas tradition is to get gifts for the children in the family, but the adults gets one secret santa gift they have to buy and then we make a donation to a local charity, cause, family in need.

Tradition from our youth dictates patterns and events that we enjoy partaking in. Games night was always a huge success when I was younger – board games/cribbage/euchre/rummy and pictionary. Fun was had by all – bonded our siblings close together and it still remains the major event on Christmas Eve.
