I love creating family traditions. Last year, I decided that we needed to add apple and pumpkin picking to our list of Fall activities that we do as a family. Living in St. Louis, there is a wide array of local farms that offer these types of to-do’s on their properties. One of the best known is Eckert’s Farms, which have three locations. The largest of these locations is in nearby Belleville, Illinois, about an hour away from where we live. And we had so much fun picking apples and pumpkins last year, that we’ve made it another tradition of ours. We hopped in the car and took the scenic route down 255 North and headed to Eckert’s Farm for some family bonding time and fun.
Picking apples and pumpkins at Eckert’s Farm is a real treat. The farm is huge, but they’ve made it user friendly by offering so many things for families to do and see. Of course there’s the picking, but they also have small carnival rides for the kiddos as well as pony and camel riding. You can also peruse their amazing market where they offer everything you need to prepare home cooked meals, and their garden center, which has in-season flowers, plants, and other fixtures for your home and garden.
Eckert’s Farm in Belleville also has a restaurant that serves country home cooking and you can enjoy custard and ice cream too.
Here are a few pictures from our latest Eckert’s Farm adventure. I snapped photos of my mom-in-law and daughter picking apples and pumpkins, as well as the tractor trailer ride. I caught The Chicklet in action on one of the carnival rides too, and she shares a photo of the carved pumpkin we purchased at Eckert’s for our dog, Ellie.
Being a mama who likes to look fab whilst out, I opted for a moto jacket and jeans for our apple and pumpkin picking.
As you can see, we had a fun time. And it looks like we will be back soon, as they are offering holiday events and cooking classes, too. Sign us up!

Looks like fun. All the pumpkin, apple and blueberry picking farms in Atlanta are about an hour or more away. I need to make this a priority for us to take a similar trip!

Swarthy Daisy told me earlier on Twitter that she too went apple picking this weekend at Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, GA. Not sure how far that is from you, but I am sure it’w worth the trip. We had a ball 🙂
