The watercooler is certainly the place to be the day after an awards show. Last night’s 66th Annual Emmy Awards are no exception, as many of us are going over our favorite moments while discussing the night’s happenings—who won, who lost, and most importantly, who rocked the red carpet?
I was fresh off of a flight when I tuned in to the Emmys last night, so I totally missed the red carpet entrances (which is by far my favorite part of any awards fete), but I did some perusing online to get a feel of the looks and trends that hit the “runway”.
What I enjoyed most about the styles on the 2014 Emmy red carpet was that is was full of color. I love to see Hollywood embrace bright hues and patterns while ditching the traditional black, white and “monochromatic” frocks. There was plenty of color in play as well as textured gowns and playful hair. I must say that this year’s Emmy’s did not disappoint style wise.
I’ve taken the liberty of posting my Top 5 Most Fab on the 2014 Emmy Red Carpet. When I compile my lists, I don’t do them based on designer or the popularity of the woman donning the dress—I do it based off my personal preference. I love seeing gowns that aren’t stuffy or traditional, but I also have an affinity for classic Hollywood glamour.
So feast your eyes on my list:
5. Amy Poehler
Funny girl Amy Poehler looked effortlessly fabulous and glam on the 2014 Emmy red carpet. In a silver metallic gown from Theia, Lorraine Schwartz jewels, tossed waves, and a beat face, she showed that comedienne’s can bring it when it comes to style. Loved this look on her.
4. Angela Basset
Yes, I am a fan of color and sizzle, but Angela Bassett knocked it out of the park in this Elisabetta Franchi gown with gold belt. Simple, yet chic. Impeccably classic, and showcases her amazing figure without much effort. Work!
3. Christina Hendricks
Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks can do no wrong in my book. Her curves always woo me (and everybody else) and this red one shoulder Marchesa number with ruffled train and waist embellishment is giving me that Old Hollywood Glam that I admire and adore. Simply stunning.
3. Julia Roberts (tie)
How playful and gorge is this beaded Elie Saab creation? Julia Roberts looks amazing and everything is on point from her mane to her nude makeup to her heels. I’m glad that she went shorter with her dress but still kept it glam and elegant.
2. Teyonah Parris
Mad Men’s Teyonah Parris better WORK! Her 2014 Emmy look was stylistically A-plus plus! I love how the lime contrasted with the peach and brown bodice, giving us that summer look but still elegant and fresh. She definitely made her mark on the red carpet, as one of the best dressed of the night. Former Project Runway winner Christian Siriano is responsible for this fabulous frock.
1. Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington rocked all Prada and took my breath away. She truly understands what works for her, and I loved that she took a chance and worked with come color, something that she does on the red carpet from time to time. Hair and makeup on point and also sporting a new mommy glow, Kerry snagged the most fab of the night, rightfully so.
As far as she show itself, the 2014 Emmy’s were a bore to me. Thankfully, the fashion of the night saved it from being a total wash.
