We are currently in the spring season, and many of you still may be stuck when it comes to launching your own business. As an entrepreneur who was also afraid to launch, it took me losing my job to finally get out there and make some things happen. I am a believer that sometimes, you do have to step out and TRY even if you are nervous doing so. I often think about if I would’ve started my business before I lost my job, how much further I would be now in my pursuits.
AVON Representative and Unit Leader Jennie Gnojek knew over 20 years ago that she wanted to do something on her own to increase her income and showcase her entrepreneurial skills. She not only earns a great income with AVON, but has also gotten her grown son into the act with selling AVON as well. Read about Jennie’s story and how she sprung forward to launch her own business via AVON. If you are an entrepreneur, this is a must-read story.
You’ve been with AVON for over 20 years. How did you get started?
I started selling Avon when I was very young. I had just moved into an apartment with my son and was also going to college full-time. Money was tight and my landlord sold Avon. I loved coming to see the newest products that were delivered every Saturday, which got me interested in selling Avon myself.
What do you enjoy most about working with AVON?
I love that no matter where I go, Avon comes with me. Lately I’ve heard of so many job losses, cuts, layoffs, etc., and it’s nice to know that I will never be let go from Avon. Avon offers opportunities for you , you just have to reach out for them!
What advice would you give to women who may want to start a career with AVON but are afraid to?
Avon is such an easy business to get started with, if you can spend a little time each week to organize yourself. Organization is definitely important as well as consistency in which day each week will be dedicated to Avon, e.g. drop off books on Mondays, deliver on Thursdays, etc.
How can someone SPRING forward and create their own success?
When you start your business, make sure to ask all of your friends, family and co-workers to take a look at a brochure. Have them each share one with another friend and reward them with a free gift to really get the word out. For this time of year, Spring Lip Balms are great to give and everyone loves them!
What are your favorite AVON Staples?
We never have enough lip balm in our house, especially with such a dry winter this year, so my family loves Moisture Therapy. My daughter and I also especially love Smooth Minerals. I have to hide mine so it doesn’t end up in her bathroom!
Your son also sells AVON. How did you get him involved?
When I got involved with Avon Leadership, my son knew I was recruiting like crazy and asked about it. I told him you just need to deliver books, take orders and deliver the products to customers. He was going to school and working at the time so was looking to make some extra money. He began bringing Avon brochures to work; turned out the ladies love him and he’s become a natural salesman!
How has AVON helped you give back to the community?
I love helping families and I work during the day as a full-time Teachers Aide with some great kids! Each year a local agency that raises money to help kids who have a life threatening disease asks me to come to their event at a nearby stadium. I give out Avon samples, information about products and prizes to families who attend the event. I am also involved with my daughters school group, Girls Night Out, where last year we raised money for Teens with Cancer. I was able to provide nail polish and manicures to the girls who were at the event. I am also teaching our students about hygiene this year and am thankful I can give them the new RIO 2 Shampoo and Body Wash to get them excited about it. I love being a part of a company that helps me give back to the community!
