During the holiday season, there is a lot of focus on giving to others. This is something I enjoy the most around this time of year, but it is important for us to remember to give back, not just during the holidays, but all year long. This month, my AVON Brand Ambassador spotlight features a woman who is not only a successful AVON Representative, but one who gives utilizes her gifts to help others all year long. Get to know Jessie Frias from New Jersey, an AVON Representative, Makeup Maven, and Certified Beauty Advisor who was recently seen on the TODAY Show representing AVON and their annual holiday Toy Drive.
You are an AVON superstar! How did you get started working with the brand?
Avon in my opinion is the superstar! I started with Avon because I wanted to buy the products at a discount. With four children, every penny counts.
What are some of the things you love about being an AVON Representative?
Being an Avon Representative is very rewarding to me for several reasons. The friendships that I have developed, the freedom of working the hours I want and when I want, and the flexibility of going on vacation whenever I want. Most of all is the ability to empower other women that have very low self-esteem and help encourage and motivate them, and today to see them out of their cocoon and being successful with Avon.
You were recently on the TODAY Show representing AVON and their annual holiday Toy Drive. How was that experience for you?
OMG, being on the TODAY Show representing the company that I love, there are few words that can describe how I felt. It honestly wasn’t about the show or the people at the TODAY Show that amazed me, to me it was more about the fact that the company that I love and respect gave almost half a million dollars’ worth of products to children in need. That caring part of Avon is that part that encourages me to continue selling every day. Of course, being on TV was a bonus!
AVON is known for their philanthropy and giving. How does that coincide with your personal volunteering?
Avon is incredible with giving back to society. We sell many products to fund initiatives such as cancer awareness, domestic violence and in times of need, giving to areas affected by storm devastation. On a more local level, my team and I do things in our community. Once a month I give a makeup class to the women and men at the local unemployment office, and I also teach mothers that are on warfare but are trying to get back into the workplace how to prepare themselves for this. I show them how five or six simple Avon products can make them look like a million dollars for a job interview. We also do makeovers for cancer survivors, giving them a few hours of joy with Avon makeup. They love it and I always give them everything that we use on them for free.
You are an AVON Makeup Maven, Certified Beauty Advisor, Advanced Unit Leader, and President’s Club and Honor Society Member. How do you do it all?
How do I do it all? Just as I run my household: planning, planning and planning. My motto in life is that “You gotta do whatcha gotta do.” I am huge on goal setting, whether it’s short term, long term, or even 3 day term. But if you plan your day, your week, your month and your year…things will eventually work out. I stay very organized and try not to leave things for the last minute.
How has your family helped you build your AVON business?
Without my family it would be almost impossible for me to accomplish all that I have been able to with Avon. My daughter is my stamper and packer, my grown boys are my delivery men and my heavy loaders, and of course my husband of 23 years is my everything. They know the products just as well as I do. But they also understand the business side of Avon, and how my earnings have enabled us to go on trips, both long and short, as well as afford things that in this economy would be difficult with just a single income.
What would you say to women who are interested in becoming an entrepreneur with AVON?
To the men and women that are interested in this business, I tell them all the time to just look where my family and I are and we are no different than you. I tell them there is definitely work involved but how rewarding it is when you can decide what your work hours will be and even what days you want to work. Avon can open doors for anyone, no matter what your educational level or language. You can grow your $10.00 business into a multi-million dollar business if you put your mind to it.
