In just a few days, my nine year old Chicklet will be starting the 4th grade. Funny how time (and summer) flies when you are having fun. One of the activities that she and I covet together is going Back to School shopping. As a budding Fashionista, my daughter enjoys picking out her own clothes and coming up with looks of her own. I like to see her creativity fly as she selects her wardrobe, and of course, I chime in when needed.
I am very budget conscious when it comes to clothing, and I have never spent a fortune on school clothes. Currently, The Chicklet is going through a massive growth spurt, so for me, selecting clothes that are both stylish, inexpensive, and able to grow with her was our challenge this year.
We found options that fit all of the above and did so without breaking the bank. This year’s back to school clothing selection came from the following stores: Gap Kids, Old Navy, Lands End, Hanna Andersson, Famous Footwear, and The Children’s Place.
Part 1 of our 2013 Back to School Style Guide features a nautical influenced look of stripes, chambray, and navy.
Look #1: Skirt It Up
This look is simply too cute! It features a Lands End chambray top that is long sleeved, but has a ruffle wrist so that it can be turned into a shorter sleeve shirt. This is going to be a perfect top to transition from summer to fall. The pink skirt was used for a pop of color, followed by navy patterned leggings and Old Navy Suede boots.
Look #2: Mixing Patterns
Mixing patterns is the rage on the runway, so why not have your little one have fun? This Gap Kids look was a steal. The top was only $7.99 on sale and the red and white polka dot jeans were buy one, get one half off. So we stocked up, of course!
Look #3: School Blues
This look really showcases our Nautical theme that seems to be impacting everything. The Old Navy top is sleeveless, so we partnered it with a sweater which makes it perfect for school. The teal Old Navy shorts were only $10, and came with the belt. We topped the look off with a cute striped headband and a pair of teal Sperry Top Siders.
Look #4: Anchors Aweigh
The Chicklet loves wearing dresses, so when we found this chambray style dress at Old Navy, we both instantly knew to grab it. It can be dressed up or down and is a great dress to have in her closet. We styled this with striped leggings and Old Navy Suede boots. Her Kate Spade crossbody bag goes perfect with it for our weekend jaunts. An outfit that can be worn to school and for play.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of our 2013 Back to School Style Guide which will feature Neon and bright colors.
