The Digital Debutante in me is addicted to tablets. Being as how I am always on the go, either on the road, up in the air, or in travel mode, I need to be able to plug-in digitally wherever I am. As much as I love my Macbook Pro, a tablet is more conducive to the digital lifestyle while on the move. I recently got the opportunity to review Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and of course I jumped at the chance because I wanted to compare it to other the other tablets I already have and have reviewed.
The first thing I can say that I like about the tablet is, you guessed it, the size. The screen pops out and you and gives you a great experience while you are browsing the Internet, watching video or movies, or playing games. While my iPad is awesome to work on, I feel that visually, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is great to PLAY on.
But, don’t let that fool you. This tablet is highly multi-functional. Run your apps, get work done, check email—everything you need to do, you can do with this tablet. Verizon’s 4G LTE speed is impressive, and because I am a Verizon customer, this made me extra happy. Listening to music is also fab as well; the sound quality is amazing even with basic headphones. It also has two cameras (front facing and regular) that makes taking images and video a breeze.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is thinner and longer than the iPad (it’s also lighter). And surprisingly enough, compared to the Samsung Galaxy Note II, it also has better battery life.
The cons? A few times, the screen would freeze and cause me to completely reboot the system. If in the middle of replying to an email or doing something important, this could prove to be a pain. Also, there were a few force close situations when using the in-stock web browser that came with ready installed in the device.
Would I leave my iPad completely for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2? No. As impressed with it as I am, I don’t see it replacing my iPad. I do see it being one that I use primarily for entertainment purposes (watching movies and video while on the go).
What do you think about the tablet life? Have you tried the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2?
