It’s official! The San Fransisco 49’ers and the Baltimore Ravens will be going head to head during the 47th Super Bowl (Super Bowl XLVII) in New Orleans. And even if you aren’t a diehard football fan, chances are you will be watching one of the most watched televised event of the year, because that is all people will be talking about two Sundays from now.
Some of you may even be hosting a Super Bowl party for family and friends, something I do every year. Throwing a party fit for the Big Game takes a lot of work and effort, but can be done with relative ease with a few easy tips.
Here are 5 Ideas to Help You Throw an Awesome Super Bowl Party:
It’s all about the commercials
Who watches the Super Bowl for the actual game? Sometimes, the real entertainment comes from the commercials. Make your party a hit by handing your guests index score cards that they can use to rate their favorite commercials during the game. Tally up the votes and perhaps give a winning prize (gift card or something to that effect) to a randomly selected person who selected the most favorited commercial. Make it competitive yet fun.
Beer tasting, anyone?
Football and beer go hand in hand. Create a beer tasting station that guests can taste selected beers, ones that are from boutique brands and smaller labels. This idea brings a little more festivity to your fete and will make it fun! (make sure that the beer tasting is only for guests 21 and older—drink responsibly). Check out this link from Real Simple for beers that are from cities that may represent your guests favorite NFL teams.
Make it a potluck
Who says you have to do all the work when you host? Make it easier on you by making a potluck affair, where everyone brings a dish. You supply the paper goods (paper plates, napkins, plasticware, etc.) and let your guests supply the menu. When inviting, make sure to mention that guests should bring finger foods and items that are easy to eat and “travel” with, since most people are in more than one area during the party. Chicken wings, pigs in a blanket, sliders, egg rolls, and other finger foods make perfect items for a Super Bowl party.
Square off
Before the official game begins, have each guest write down who they think will win the Big Game and the final score. The person who selects the winner with the closest score will win a gift! Make it competitive.
Make it Festive
Supply your guests with scenery they will remember! Create football cookies decorated with the two teams playing. You can also create football beverage tags (see photo above), and even create a centerpiece made out of a football stuffed with flowers. Use your imagination to really turn your home into pigskin central.
