It’s only been 8 months since singer and actress Whitney Houston left us. We have seen various reports and accounts since her passing of a family that is still mourning the loss of their mother, sister, daughter, niece, and friend. So much has been said about Whitney while she was alive, and now that she has passed, her family continues to try to promote a united front. Not without problems, of course, because Whitney’s only child, Bobbi Kristina seems to hit the headlines every month or so. First outed by a romantic relationship with her “brother” Nick Gordon, and then drinking heavily and even getting into a car accident.
To make matters even worse, Bobbi, alongside her family, will be thrust into the public spotlight once again with a new reality series on the Lifetime network called The Houstons: On Our Own, which will chronicle the family as they try to rebuild their lives after Whitney’s untimely death.
Why a family would put themselves through more public scrutiny than needed with a new reality show is beyond me. I am sure this is something Whitney would not co-sign were she alive. She managed to get her shortlived reality series with then husband Bobby Brown pulled off air and never to be shown again on television. Surely having Bobbi Kristina followed around by cameras would not be the way Whitney would’ve wanted her to live.
In my opinion, it seems that Whitney’s manager and sister-in-law, Pat Houston, is trying to cash in on Whitney’s name with this reality series. I can’t put my finger on it, but it she rubs me the wrong way.
I hope this family can remember—money ain’t everything.
Below is a teaser for The Houstons: On Our Own will debut Wed., Oct. 24th, 9pm EST/8pm EST.
Will you watch?

I absolutely agree with you –especially about Pat Houston. Something is very fishy about her absolutely. I just hope that Bobbi Kris does not ultimately get hurt in all of this.

No, I will not watch. It seems wrong somehow. Very wrong. Bobbi seems like a troubled woman. They don’t have to do this. Plus, it tarnishes Whitney’s memory, when she was trying to put such shenanigans behind her at the time of her death. Sad. I will not watch.

I’ve been pretty torn with watching this. I agree that they should not want to be in the public eye but hey maybe they feel they need it.
With all of the reality shows that keep popping up I don’t think i can take another. There’s only one I really like….Sweetie Pies!

I will be watching although advertising has been very weak. I’ve missed a lot of the first episodes. Thanks to DVR I will be catching up. We loved Whitney and all are praying that krissy will aim for the stars and reach for the moon. Everyone around her seems to be pulling her in all directions. Prayer is what she needs.
