Last year, The Chicklet was gifted a Hearts For Hearts Girls doll for Christmas from a friend. The doll, named Rahel, was from Ethopia and came dressed in authentic African garb from head to toe. At that instant, my daughter and I fell in love with Rahel and the whole Hearts For Hearts Girls concept, which celebrated the diversity and uniqueness of us all. It was then that I became interested in learning more about Hearts For Hearts girls and their motto: Changing the World One Heart at a Time.
Last month, I was given the opportunity to have a Hearts For Hearts Girls party in my home, and I invited a few of The Chicklet’s pals so that they could learn more about the dolls. And since Hearts For Hearts Girls is about changing the world, the girls also got to learn about how they can utilize their voices and hard work to speak on behalf of others girls all over the world who may not have had the same quality of life that they have.
Each doll comes authentically dressed in her region’s attire and comes with a booklet that gives information about her background and culture. The dolls also come with a comb, and a special heart necklace that your child can wear.
During the party, we became acquainted with all eight of the Hearts For Hearts Girls:
Nahji from India
Lilian from Belarus
Dell & Lauryce from United States
Consuelo from Mexico, Zelia from Brazil
Rahel from Ethiopia
Tipi from Laos
Then, the girls all created passports, showcasing all of the wonderful countries they wanted to travel to to help others. We also drank a special brew of Ethiopian Punch that went over really well. The sweet yet sour mixture was a hit with the girls.
Afterwards, we had a discussion in which we learned about the importance of clean drinking water and created our very own personalized recyclable water bottles.
And a party wouldn’t be complete without a little singing and dancing—what girl doesn’t like to party?
The Chicklet and I had a ball during our Hearts For Hearts Girls party, and hope that our guests did too. It’s always a joy when your kids not only have fun with toys, but they learn from them as well.
