Saturday night, I saw several images of First Lady Michelle Obama at the annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, a celebration complete with green slime and an orange (red) carpet that honors the best of the best when it comes to kids. Kids select the winners in each category and it’s a fun and festive affair where many celebrities who attend bring their kids with them to join in the fun.
Michelle Obama graced the awards with her two girls in tow, Malia and Sasha, and wore what some are calling a provocative number. Dressed in a shiny top with a tweed houndstooth skirt over the top of a pair of jeggings, I thought she looked fab! Certainly, she is not what we have come to know as “First Lady” garb. But when I posted her picture on my Facebook feed, a few people didn’t applaud Michelle’s fashion choice.
What she was wearing didn’t seem “inappropriate” or not “suitable” for her age or for the First Lady, but some people have taken a dislike to what Michelle wears, especially in this instance. One FB person said that Michelle Obama doesn’t “dress her age”. For the past 3 and a half years, that had never crossed my mind.
While I haven’t liked each and everything that Michelle Obama wears, I do love her sense of style and the fact that she looks amazing in most everything she wears. She’s fit and toned and has a body most of us would kill for. She looks pretty good in her wears too.
So I am taking to my website to ask you this: Is First Lady Michelle Obama’s look at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards ‘haute’ or ‘not’? What’s your take on our “fashionable” FLOTUS?

The first lady looked beautiful. In this day and age, the secret to getting the younger generation to listen to you is to make certain they can relate to you in some fashion but still maintain their respect for you. Her outfit allowed the kids to connect with her, but her message helped them realize that she is speaking to their futures and that she truly cares about what happens to them. That’s why they listen. People who don’t understand that will find fault with it, however, how many of the younger generation have they reached?

Stephanie, thanks for commenting. And I totally agree with you. It was the Kids’ Choice awards so of course, she wasn’t going to be dressed as if she was attending the State of the Union address. 🙂

First Lady Michelle Obama is a beautiful, confident woman, I absolutely admire her, she looks wonderful.

I don’t like it. It’s not because of her age. I don’t like the shiny top with a tweed houndstooth skirt.
Regardless she is a beautiful woman attending a “kids event”. A dress suit would be inappropriate for the Kids Choice Awards.

I think her outfit is appropriate for the venue. I mean if this was the opera I would think ehh… what is she wearing. Not really my style but she can totally pull it off!
She is very good about dressing for the event she is attending! 🙂

To judge the outfit we must also consider the event the clothing was worn for. This was Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, lol, loud colors everywhere! The outfit was flashy and fun, she looked approachable & kid friendly. I give the outfit two thumbs up.

As a fashion show producer and stylist I thought First Lady Michelle Obama looked absolutely stunning! It was classy, sophisticated and sheek and very much so “AGE APPROPRIATE”!! She was BEAUTIFUL!!!

I personally think some of her outfits are hit or miss. I think we as a society have an expectation of what “we think” the first lady should dress like. While I do think Michelle sticks to her true style some things are just fashion fails. This outfit though I did think was cute on her. Some of the outfits she has been seen wearing I can honestly say don’t do her beauty justice but I’m sure we have all been there.
As for dressing her age, if you feel 30 but really are 40 why should you dress 40 if that isn’t how you feel. I think she dresses youthfull because that’s how she feels.

She’d look appropriate if she were one of the X-Men.

I think she has great style and was probably just trying to be “hip” at the awards. 🙂 I don’t personally love the outfit but it’s not horrible.
The Cubicle Chick says
Sadie, very well said! I totally agree! 🙂

As usual she was an absolute DISGRACE to our country. At least she finally covered her arms. She looks like a hooker that just came in off the street. Just proves you can’t teach someone class, beauty or fashion sense. Such a disgrace and an embarrassment, as always.

Personally, she IS the First Lady and REGARDLESS of the event, she should be showing better class than this outfit. Sorry to say it but she is a disgrace to her position as First Lady and you can all say what you want but you know better. If this is what you think of the First Lady that shes is “hip” to today’s generation, you are probably sitting on the couch getting welfare money and eating McDonalds for every meal !!! Get real people, this manner of dress is out of it for her position !!!

Personally I believe this is pathetic example of an almost 50-year old woman, who happens to be our First Lady. She should stick with classic, stylish, AGE APPROPRIATE outfits when going out in public. I think she looks like a desperate woman at a singles bar trying to hook up with a guy.

And then, 2016 election came… and the First Lady Melania Knauss Trump shows up with a coterie of nude pictures showing she actually was a hooker. The European kind, but still a bride for hire. Happy 2021!
