Fall is my favorite season. Not just because of the weather or the fabulous fashion items I can rock, but because it is the time of the year when make-up powerhouse Urban Decay releases their highly anticipated Book of Shadows palettes. Book of Shadows IV is the next in the line of uber wonderful eye palettes that Urban Decay has released, and it is now available online at Sephora. I ordered mine on Saturday night, as soon as I saw it was available for purchase after weeks of suspense, and I cannot wait for it to arrive.
What’s different about this year’s BOS is that it embraces technology in a new way that make-up hasn’t yet. The palette includes 16 eye colors (10 of the colors are new) and comes with QR codes that you can scan with your smartphone that will give you step-by-step tutorials on how to create eye looks. The ability to access Urban Decay’s exclusive how-to videos are just one of many reasons why you need to get this palette.
I have read many mixed reviews about the new collection on several beauty blogs—mostly people are not impressed with the tech that comes with the palette and would have appreciated more colors instead. I, on the other hand, am a Digital Debutante that loves stuff like this, so the QR codes addition is right up my alley. Plus I love watching tuts on You Tube and online, so the fact that I can access them right from my smartphone is indeed glam!
Urban Decay’s Book of Shadows IV also comes with 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion (carbon black), SuperCurl Mascara in black, Eyeshadow Primer Potion, and Mini Keychain Speaker that you can listen to the tutorials with while watching them on your smartphone.
I cannot wait to get my hands on my Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV palette. I will be doing an un-boxing and pictorial once I get to try out some of the colors.
Book of Shadows IV retails for $64, Sephora.com.

I work in social media, so the QR-code feature makes this soooo much cooler to me, especially since it will lead to a tutorial on application. I’m always looking for new makeup tips since I kind of do the same old boring thing every time I get dolled up. 🙂

PG, that QR code feature had me at hello. I think a lot of the diehard make-up mavens don’t really care about the tech part and think UD could’ve spent more time with the eye colors, but I think their choice of adding that component was brilliant. Either way, I will be giving a full on review once I receive it. Thanks for commenting.
