I am all about helping a friend, especially when it also helps an important cause. My friend Cali, who I’ve known for a couple of years now via Twitter, is lending her time and her body to help find a cure for leukemia and lymphoma by participating in the Rock and Roll San Diego Marathon on June 5th. As a part of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training, Cali will be running 26.2 miles. Is that dedication or what?
What is Cali’s motivation for participating in such an endeavor? She is running on behalf of her cousin, Sabrina Walton, who as a teen, was diagnosed with leukemia. “I figured the least I could do to honor her would be to lace up a pair for a good cause. With the aide from research and proper care Sabrina, now in her 30’s, made it through some of her toughest battles, but it still affected with health issues related to her Leukemia. The challenges I have yet to face are nothing compared to the challenges that Sabrina and so many others face every day”.
I really have to hand it to Cali—she’s helping her cousin as well as others who are fighting for their lives with leukemia and lymphoma and I am so proud to call her a friend of mine.
What can you do?
Cali needs your help and support. She has given herself a goal to raise $5,000, and “6% of that will be used by LLS for research, patient aid, and education! NO DONATION IS TOO GREAT OR SMALL…every bit helps! ”
Please take a moment of your time to donate by going to Cali’s official fund raising page.
Leukemia is a type of cancer of the blood or bone cancer, signaled by an increase of abnormal blood cells. In 2000, 256,000 kids and adults around the world developed some form of leukemia. 209,000 of those people died from the disease.
Let’s rally around Cali (hey, that rhymes) and help her raise money for her cousin and for others who have leukemia and lymphoma. Together, we can make a difference.
