Today is a day of remembrance for civil rights activist and humanitarian, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. If he were still alive today, he would’ve celebrated his eighty-second birthday on January 15th.
It is important for my children to understand that today is just not a day off from school; it is a day to remember a man who fought for them to be treated equally. For them to sit on the bus in any seat they want to, to sit at a lunch counter without fear, to be treated like a human being.
We can never forget the dream or the impact that Dr. King’s life and death has affected us all.

It's really crucial that students really understand what MLK Day is all about. Dr. King's dream personally has always inspired me to never take no for an answer. Where this is a will – there is a way and his legacy proves that.
