The commercials are gentle, relaxing, vivid, colorful, and leave you on the edge of your seat. With a simple view of a flowery backdrop and the letters OWN, you feel that waiting until January 1st 2011 is much too long of a wait. I am so ready now for the Oprah Winfrey Network.
The media powerhouse that is Oprah Winfrey teamed up with Discovery Networks to offer an exciting new network that was created by Oprah for her vast audience. I envision it as being O, The Oprah Magazine brought to life with everything from lifestyle, entertainment, parenting, fashion and beauty, and do-it-yourself type of shows. Oprah’s OWN is replacing Discovery Health, a channel which I frequented, but which showed a lot of programming that is already available on TLC and other Discovery channels. OWN’s website boasts that is, “devoted to self-discovery, to connecting you to your best self and to the world”.
Whatever it is, I am in!
OWN already has a line of impressive programming—The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Our America with Lisa Ling, The Gayle King Show, Finding Sarah, and Cristina Ferrare’s Big Bowl of Love. It is looking like I will be tuned into this channel often.
I am also hoping that OWN also gives a candid view of everyday people who are challenging themselves to be better people, make better decisions, and reaching towards their goals. Oprah lost me as a regular viewer of her show when I felt that my voice (and those voice of my peers) was being left out of being heard—I couldn’t identify with many of the guests or their “ordeals”. I am a rocking mother of two who likes to live fab but sometimes loses her way. I don’t live the fabulous life yet, as my bank account isn’t yet in Oprah’s or Barbra Streissand’s league. I felt like I had been left out of the vision of the show.
Hopefully that will not be the case of OWN. I am looking forward as it being a destination on the boob tube where I can find enjoyment and enlightenment.
Are you planning to watch OWN?

Honestly if the programing on OWN is anything like the majority of the programming on Oprah, I won’t tune in. Like you Oprah lost me as a viewer a long time ago, I love her as an inspiration but I don’t tune into her show. Oddly enough I do buy O magazine evey once in a while, I’m a magazine whore to the core, lol.
