I have been blessed to have met some wonderful and interesting people via Twitter. One of those such people is Demetrius, aka @afreshmusic, a blogger and music lover who shares his opinions and critiques on http://www.thefreshmusicpage.com. Demetrius and I have been friends on Twitter for almost two years, as he was one of the first people to follow me on the social network. Now he is joining me as the official Pop Culture Contributor here on The Cubicle Chick.
I am an avid lover of pop culture myself including reality television, gossip, and trends. But when it comes to that genre, Demetrius trumps me. And me wanting to bring my readers the best information that I can, I have relied on D to bring the heat when it comes to everything that is IN.
Earlier this week, D took some time out of his schedule to answer a few questions via an interview so that you guys can be more acquainted with him, as he will be on my blog making updates at least once weekly:
TCC: What has drawn you to pop culture and music?
Afreshmusic: I come from an extremely musically gifted family. It only makes sense that something in me sparked. I just happen to be a horrible singer and I play no instruments. I have always been a brutal honest critic on everything and I love to write.
TCC: What are your top three pop culture moments in recent memory?
Afreshmusic: Michael Jackson’s death has to be the number 1. I was in shock. I don’t usually have many feelings about a celebrity death but losing Michael was like losing a family member.
Balloon Boy was quite a different experience. I remember watching CNN tweeting about it. I have a feeling that twitter heighten this moment. After finding out it was a hoax, I realized that twitter has a lot of power if used correctly.
President Obama: Although the President is from Chicago, I was not an early supporter of him. Wait, he actually won? Our President it a black man from the Southside of Chicago? Not bad!
TCC: Who is a pop culture figure who you watch with reckless abandon?
Afreshmusic: I watch Kim Kardashian, she’s hot! Both physically and popularity wise, Kim and her Kardashian clan are the hottest things in Pop Culture. She has blown Paris Hilton out of the water. I find her so amazing that she has no actual talent but she’s really flirting with A-list celebrity status.
TCC: What would you do if there was suddenly no television?
Afreshmusic: I would watch via the internet! No but I’ll survive as long as I have my music. I’m way more interested in music than I am TV anyway. I got interested in TV first but music has my heart.
TCC: What pop culture shocker do you think is on the horizon?
Afreshmusic: Nothing in Pop Culture no longer shocks me. I heard talks about the Producers of the Wendy Williams show want to calm her down so she can appeal to middle of America stay at home moms. It’s not a total shocker but I want to see how this experiment goes. Wendy Williams from urban radio shock jock to the next Oprah?
TCC: Most importantly, what makes you a pop culture expert?
Afreshmusic: I think a lot of people are Pop Culture experts and they don’t even know it. It’s not rocket science but I do believe it has something to do with Behavioral Science. Celebrities, the media, and the general public all repeat their actions. That’s why you see so many similarities between Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan. Michael Jackson’s death and Elvis Presley death played out damn near identical. I’m very observant and I’m never afraid to speak the entire truth according to me. I have no filter: If I think it, I’ll write it. People like that.
