The White House along with our First Lady Michelle Obama have made a commitment to our children with the Let’s Move campaign which focuses on our children moving and being active and curving childhood obesity. Recess Rocks also fits into that initiative, as it is a program created to get our youth moving so they are on the road to health.
Recess Rocks was created by the Community Health Center (CHC). According to the Recess Rocks website:
CHC’s Recess Rocks pairs dance instructors with school teachers and classrooms in their community. The dance artist turns the sedentary recess many children now endure—if indeed they have a recess—into a high-activity movement session, ranging from hip-hop to creative movement, to increase their activity levels.
Dancing during recess is a wonderful way to get kids moving while having fun. What kid do you know who doesn’t like dancing in some form or fashion? Recess Rocks has been created for children K-6th grade.
I am so excited about this program that I am bringing it to the attention of my 6 year old daughter’s principal in hopes that they may think about incorporating the program in her elementary school. I think it is something the kids would enjoy doing and it is good for their health and bodies!
