I have never been a super duper gift wrapper. I’ve always struggled with making my packages look uber pretty for events and special occasions. My gifts and packages were always okay but nothing to write home about. That was until I taught myself over again to wrap gifts the right way.
Here are a few tips that I have learned in order to make your gift look fab and neat just like the professional wrappers in the stores.
1. Before you begin wrapping, make sure you have all of your materials at hand that you will need. Always choose a wrapping paper that is complimentary to the event (wedding, birthday, baby shower, etc.) and always save your remnants/scraps for future use.
2. The first thing you must do when wrapping a gift is making sure you have enough wrapping paper. There is nothing like wrapping a gift up only to find that you measured incorrectly and don’t have enough paper cut out for your package. Always “pre-wrap your gift”, that is wrap the wrapping paper over the gift to make sure that it fits. Afterwards, you can cut it out and actually wrap the gift.
3. Once you measure the gift, begin wrapping it on the sides. Take your time to make sure that everything is tucked and folded neatly. It doesn’t have to be prefect, BUT you don’t want any stray lines or bunched up paper.
4. Use a clear or invisible tape for wrapping as well. Your lines should be seamless, i.e. no one should see the tape and where you applied it. That way, if you do have to make a correction, you can use an invisible tape to do so without anyone knowing.
5. Fold your wrapping paper tight but not too tight as it may tear. I don’t like to use heavy weighted gift wrapping paper but I also do not like the real light paper as well because it tears very easily. Choose a mid-weighted paper that can be easily folded and doesn’t make your gift look bulky or un-neat.
6. When wrapping, always take your time. When you rush to wrap the gift, you can make mistakes which may cause your gift not to look as neat as it could. Take your time and plan your next move before you execute it. Wrap by sections.
7. Using a pretty bow or ribbon on your gift always seals the deal when it comes to a great gift. You can also use the ribbon, bow, or accessory to hold the card in place.
Voila!
I visited Club Wedd today at Target to buy my cousin and his fiancee a gift and this is the results. I hope these tips help you on your next gift wrapping mission. Good luck!
