When Oprah speaks, the world listens. And when she announced her No Phone Zone Pledge last month, a lot of people took heed.
The pledge goes like this:
I pledge to make my car a No Phone Zone. Beginning right now, I will do my part to help put an end to distracted driving by pledging the safest driving behavior I can commit to:
I will not text while I am driving.I will not text while driving and will use only handsfree calling if I need to speak on the phone while I am driving.I will not text or use my phone while I am driving. If I need to use my phone, I will pull over to the side of the road.

Texting and driving is bad and I've stopped but no I'll still drive and talk via speaker phone. However, I'm so tired Miss "Do-Gooder" Oprah. I've never seen Oprah driving around Chicago. Come on think about how easy this pledge is for Oprah. How often do you think she actually drives herself? Some people live in their car damn near and it's a mobile office.
I bet you Oprah won't say don't eat and drive which can also be very distracting. Ever seen a person eating a taco, pizza, or chicken in their car? I have!

Putting on make-up while driving is the worst! I've seen two accidents happen because they were applying their mascara and not watching the road. Driving while doing anything but driving of course is not safe. But there have been so many accidents because of cellphones, the media (and Oprah) has run away with it. I have vowed, however, to do better!

The texting and driving is far up there on the worse. I mean of course it's after drinking or high while driving.
Next thing you know they are going to say you shouldn't be fat while driving because fat people have slow reaction speeds.lol

@afreshmusic – I was thinking the same thing. Oprah can't tell me anything until she has a walked a mile in my shoes. I respect her as a pioneer in media but pull over and talk on the phone. Hell I might as well get it cut off. I will sign the no texting, but no talking, moving right along….
FYI- @afreshmusic- Keep the fat jokes in ya back pocket and sit on'em.

I don't think it's necessarily fair to jump on Oprah for this. At least she is using her fame & influence to support a good cause. I'm not sure if she's mentioned why she decided to do this, but it's possible that she knows someone who was injured or killed in an accident which involved phone use and driving. Even if that's not the reason, it is still safer to drive without texting or even talking on the phone. Oprah, like it or not, has the power to bring a lot of attention to whatever topics she wishes, and she has chosen this. More power to her.
