When there is a massive tragedy such as the earthquake that struck Haiti last week, Hollywood is there to do what it does best: flaunt their celebrity status for a cause. And this time, the cause is not for box office dollars or concert tickets, but to help raise funds for the relief effort.
Tonight beginning at 8pm EST, most stations on your television will be simulcasting the Hope for Haiti Telethon which boasts almost every star you can think of. From Beyonce to Rihanna to U2, Madonna, Brad Pitt, Leonardo Di Caprio, Tom Hanks, Ben Stiller, Wyclef, the list goes on and on. This star studded event was headed and formulated by actor George Clooney, who called Hollywood to action to take part in helping raise much needed funds for the devastation in Haiti after the vicious earthquake that has obliterated the country.
MTV has partnered with Clooney to bring their live production skills and rolodex to the event, and with its Viacom army, will help broadcast the show on all of its networks including CBS, VH1, the MTV branches and more. Other networks such as ABC, FOX, and NBC will also be broadcasting the show on their various networks as well.
Over the past week or so, we have seen the Hollywood community come together to respond to the call and this telethon culminates during a time where images of dead bodies, mass graves, and uncertainty in the streets of Haiti beam into our homes each and every hour.
